You’re granting us non-exclusive rights to publish and distribute your Work worldwide. This means you keep all other rights (film, TV, translation, merchandising, etc.) and can publish your Work elsewhere if you want. We want you to stay in full control of your story — this is a collaboration, not a takeover.

Our standard agreement is for a minimum of three years — enough time to nurture your book and build readership. After that, the contract automatically continues indefinitely, but either of us can end it with 60 days’ notice. We value flexibility and long-term relationships built on trust and mutual growth.

We offer 25% royalties on net receipts for your first publication with us. While this may seem modest compared to some big publishers, here’s why: the royalty is calculated after deducting printing, production, retail commissions, payment fees, and taxes — costs that are unavoidable in publishing. Shipping fees are kept by us to cover operational expenses but don’t reduce your royalty.

Our aim is sustainability — to build a press that supports authors fairly over the long haul. For each additional publication or edition after the first, royalties increase, up to 35% for non-volunteer authors, and up to 40% for our beloved volunteer authors who contribute their time and spirit to the press’s mission. We see these royalty increases as a thank-you for your growing partnership and trust.

Volunteers are the lifeblood of Vivid Reveries. They bring heart, creativity, and community spirit beyond just their writing. To honour their vital contributions, we offer enhanced royalties—between 30% to 40%—reflecting our deep gratitude and desire to nurture reciprocal relationships where everyone thrives.

Net receipts means the actual money we receive from sales after subtracting unavoidable expenses: printing, retailer cuts, transaction fees, and taxes. We don’t deduct shipping fees customers pay — those go directly to keeping our press running smoothly and fairly distributing books. This way, your royalty is based on the true sale price of your book, not what’s spent just to make and sell it.

Absolutely! We offer author copies at printing cost plus shipping, rounded up to the nearest dollar. These copies include our Vivid Reveries imprint and ISBN but are otherwise identical to retail editions. You’re free to use them for giveaways, events, or personal sales without owing us any commission. We want you to share your work far and wide.

Our professional cover artists pour their creativity into making your book shine. Usually, the artist retains copyright to their work. We provide you a license to use the cover art for book promotion, but any other uses require the artist’s permission. We believe in respecting the artistry and rights of everyone involved.

Creative & Marketing Support: From professional cover art to formatting, plus tailored marketing advice, we work closely with you to keep your creative vision alive while helping your book find its audience.

Community & Events: We host readings, open mics, and community events — sometimes in person, sometimes virtual — to connect you directly with readers, fellow writers, and activists. Because building a readership is a collective effort.

VREAM Mobile Bookstore Charity: Vivid Reveries Expression and Movement (VREAM) is our exciting, forward-thinking charity project: a mobile bookstore and creative hub dedicated to spreading radical, diverse, and intersectional literature far and wide — especially to communities traditionally left out. When you publish with us, you’re also supporting VREAM’s mission to amplify marginalised voices and bring books to those who need them most.
Ethical Publishing for Radical Change: We operate with an anti-capitalist, activist ethos. Our goal is to nurture stories that challenge the status quo, spark empathy, and drive social justice — all while ensuring fair pay, creative freedom, and respect for you as an author and person.

Together, we’re building something much bigger than books — we’re cultivating a vibrant, inclusive literary ecosystem where radical ideas thrive and all voices are heard. That’s what makes Vivid Reveries Press not just a publisher, but a community.

When the agreement ends, your rights revert fully back to you. We’ll stop producing new copies, but to honor your investment, we’ll continue selling existing stock for up to 180 days. Unsold books after that are donated to libraries or community organizations you approve of — no returns, no destruction, just spreading your story far and wide with love.

We’re all about kindness and listening. If something comes up, we’ll talk it out first, in good faith. If needed, we’ll bring in a neutral mediator to help us find common ground — before ever thinking of legal action. This contract is a partnership, and we want to keep it that way.

We anonymise names in our internal communications to fight bias and discrimination, using coded initials. You’ll have a dedicated point of contact, our Editor-in-Chief, for all communication. For volunteer authors, sometimes direct contact with team members is needed, but always with respect and confidentiality.

Since our rights are non-exclusive, you are free to publish your Work elsewhere, or sell it independently. Just please don’t present those editions as Vivid Reveries Press editions without permission. We encourage you to be as empowered and creative as you like with your story!

Because we are a radical, ethical press that puts you — the creator — first. We offer transparency, fairness, and genuine care. We believe in storytelling as a form of resistance and transformation. Together, we’ll create a legacy, build community, and uplift voices that the mainstream often silences.

You, the Author, will sign. So will an Editor-in-Chief of Vivid Reveries Press. Additionally, a volunteer or staff member will sign as a neutral third party witness, and you’re encouraged to have someone you trust do the same. This way, everyone’s interests are safeguarded with kindness and clarity.
